DAY 1 Friday - Cotswolds
We leave the 'Muggles' of London behind and begin our magical journey to uncover some of our favourite literary hearoes. We visit the Roald Dahl Centre where young and old alike can discover the inspiration behind Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It's then a short hop to Oxford, home to Britain's oldest university. Visits include the museum whose shrunken heads were borrowed for the knight bus; Christ Church whose dining hall inspired that of Hogwarts and where we see a moving picture and the Divinity Hall where Professor McGonnagal taught ballroom dancing to Ron Weasley. (D) Overnight: Cotswolds
Day 2 Saturday - Forest of Dean
This morning we travel through the delightful Cotswolds region, Tolkein's inspiration for the ‘The Shire' in The Hobbit. We visit villages and houses from which a hobbit could emerge and the magical Rollright Stones. At this stone circle, we hear about the legend of the Witch, King and Fairies. Then we go on to see Snowy Owls and Eagles for an enchanting flying display. A steam train takes us to the old city of Gloucester where we visit the cathedral. Here you can follow a Harry Potter trail around the cathedral cloisters used in the films. Finally we drive into the spectacular Forest of Dean. (B) Overnight: Forest of Dean
Day 3 Chepstow & Lacock
This morning we venture further into the Forest of Dean and emerge at Tutshill, passing J.K. Rowling’s house and schools before venturing further into Wales to the fabulous castle of Chepstow where you can picture Harry Potter learning Quidditch. Returning to England, we arrive at Lacock. Photography was virtually invented here as you can see in a fascinating museum. Of special interest are the classrooms of Professor Snape and Quirrell, the Hall of the Mirror of England and Fluffy’s door. The journey back to London takes us through the world’s largest stone circle, Stonehenge. The tour ends back in London late afternoon at one of our tour hotels. (B)
